Coaching for Sustainability - Virtual Session

Come to this CCODN Event to participate in a lively discussion of what works for lasting behavioral change: engaging key stakeholders, developing key coaching questions based on competencies, and enabling intentional daily accountability for change with your coaching clients internally or externally.

Patt and Richard will share how their coachees have gained recognition and promotions due to focus and commitment; and lead a dialogue about best practices for what works to accelerate the awareness, development planning, and practice for leadership development when coaching leaders in a disruptive, busy, challenging and changing environment. The conversation will include dialogue to add newer, innovative ways to think about coaching to optimize your own coaching model and practice.


Richard Needles has worked as a consultant and coach with organizations in multiple industries ranging in size from 25 employees to 50,000 employees. In his corporate career, Richard personally hired over 2,000 employees; over 50 at the director and executive level. Richard also founded a corporate university to develop emerging leaders and prepare them to take on expanding roles in a time of rapid growth and change.

Richard has been a key advisor, coach and consultant for many other organizations; he has coached high-performing leaders to improve results; he has coached high-performing teams to achieve better results through goal setting, accountability, improved communications and personal development.

Career Highlights:

Fourteen years with Battelle; six as the head of Human Resources for Battelle’s first commercial venture.

Nine years with Sterling Commerce (formerly Sterling Software); Four promotions in nine years, including promotion to Senior Vice President, Global Human Resources reporting to the CEO; established Sterling Commerce Leadership Institute; managed HR activities during mergers, acquisitions and divestitures; led HR initiatives during spin-off from parent organization and establishment of Sterling Commerce as an independent NYSE public company. Company grew from 230 employees to 2,300 employees in 21 countries. Revenues grew from $35 million to $700 million with a market value of $3.9 billion.

Patt Hardie is CEO and Managing Principal of The Hardie Group LLC firm based in Columbus, Ohio. Patt helps leaders and teams to lead, grow and change powerfully and authentically using a strengths-based approach. She is a thought leader, coach, and trusted advisor with over 30 years’ experience in talent, leadership, and organizational development. Her clients include The Ohio State Fisher College of Business MBA Program, EASi, Battelle Memorial Institute, Transportation Research Center, Diocese of Columbus Association of Faith Formation Leaders and individual coaching clients.

Prior to establishing The Hardie Group LLC, Patt held senior leadership and consulting positions in industries including contract research, healthcare, utility, chemical, and retail. In that time, she led Learning/OD consulting teams to build and implement learning frameworks/curricula and leadership development experiences; aligned global learning strategies, introduced new learning technology into businesses, launched a new corporate university, transitioned a traditional learning team into a consultative organization; and transformed organizational learning/career planning strategies. She has personally coached over 200 leaders in 360oand development processes, facilitated countless team effectiveness solutions, and culture transformations. Additionally, she has created several corporate mentoring programs, peer mentoring processes, and has blogged on non-traditional ways to be mentored.

Patt is a graduate of Bowling Green State University, Oklahoma State University, and Loyola University, New Orleans with a bachelor’s in applied communications and two masters: communication consultancy and religious education. She is a Marshall Goldsmith Stakeholder Centered certified coach, and holds certifications in the Birkman Method, TRACOM Social Styles, Pritchett Business AsUnusual, Prosci Change Management, among others. She was awarded Battelle’s Chairman Award for Corporate BusinessPartnership in 2012.
